Teaching Philosophy

My goal is to nurture a lifelong love of music in each student while helping them grow into confident, expressive, and independent musicians. Each student’s curriculum is tailored to support their unique voice, emphasizing both technical excellence and creative exploration. Students will develop strong technique, listening skills, musicality, and fluency in reading, rhythm, tone, interpretation, and theory. I believe disciplined work and joyful discovery go hand-in-hand—this studio is not just a place for lessons, but a space where musicians are inspired, challenged, and supported.

Studio Values

  • Creativity – Encouraging original thought, exploration, and musical expression

  • Respect – Valuing ourselves, each other, and the learning process

  • Growth – Embracing progress through practice, reflection, and perseverance

  • Discipline – Developing the habits and focus needed for technical and artistic excellence

  • Joy – Finding fun, inspiration, and meaning in the music we create

Studio Information

Kaitlyn Ronstadt has been teaching piano in the Bellingham area since 2013 and is a sought-after instructor known for her engaging and student-centered approach. She currently serves on the board of the Bellingham Music Teachers Association (BMTA) and runs a thriving studio from her home in the South Hill neighborhood.

Students in Ms. Ronstadt’s studio are active participants in a wide range of community and state-level events. They consistently earn high honors in the Washington State Music Literacy Program, receive top marks at the BMTA Sonatina Festival and the WSMTA Young Composers Project, and are frequently selected to perform in the BMTA Music Artistry Program’s Honors Recital. Throughout the year, students enjoy numerous performance opportunities — with a minimum of three and up to eight recitals — helping them gain valuable stage experience and build lasting confidence.

With her training in the Suzuki method and the Taubman approach, Kaitlyn is committed to helping her students develop strong piano technique, intentional listening skills, and overall artistry. Students of Ronstadt’s studio learn to become more aware of how their technique and body movement affect their playing by learning to effectively release tension and to leverage natural body mechanics to achieve a more effortless and well-intentioned performance. This holistic learning approach allows students to flourish as well-rounded musicians.

Encouraging students to pursue their musical passions is a cornerstone of Kaitlyn’s teaching philosophy. As a result, each student benefits from a distinctive and personalized lesson plan designed to enhance their overall musicianship. Students work through a balance of classical and contemporary repertoire, as well as explore improvisation and composition in their piano lessons.

Kaitlyn enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels, and her favorite thing about teaching is learning what approach resonates with a student the best.

Adult Learners Welcome!

Whether you’re returning to the piano or just getting started, I welcome adult students of all levels. Lessons focus on building healthy technique, addressing common challenges, and choosing repertoire that is both engaging and rewarding. Together, we also develop a strong foundation in music theory, so you not only learn to play music — you learn to understand it. Community is a key part of the experience: adult students are invited to participate in bi-monthly soirees, informal gatherings where we share music and support each other in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
